Trek West Day 2

Sat. morning we woke up to a whole lot of snow and lots of wind, never a good combination especially in WY. We feed the kids and loaded back into the car. As we headed for the interstate we started to notice that there were Semi-trucks parked everywhere. It turns out the interstate was closed ALL ways. There was no where to go and they were forecasted to stay closed at least all day.

So we headed back to our hotel (luckily I still had my key) and went back into our room to make a plan. Cord immediately got online to read weather forecasts and road conditions, the kids watched Sat. morning cartoons, and I started looking in the phone book for other hotels that had adjoining rooms. I knew that it would be an even longer day, if we only had one tiny room for the 8 of us. Pretty soon it was determined that we were officially stuck and that all alternate routes were closed as well.

Cord was the Hero of the day when he found us two adjoining rooms in the Holiday Inn. There was more space, an indoor pool, and best of all a restaurant where the kids eat free (at least some of the kids). So we loaded back into the car and drove a few miles. The roads were horrible, and we were glad that was as far as we had to drive.

Saturdays usually go very fast at our house, because we usually have so much to do and not enough time. Well, this sat. was eternal. It seemed as if the hours crawled by. There isn't a whole lot you can do in a hotel room with six kids. the kids each had a backpack with 3 toys each and coloring books, but that can entertain only so long. They watched TV for a little while, but they had watched movies in the car the entire day the day before they were just ready to burn off some energy. Luckily, there was a huge lobby and lots of area for the kids to run and play and make new friends. Plus swimming is always a great way to make one tired, at least the parents from chasing and hauling all the kids around the pool.

All in all it was a fun day, but very, very LONG. One we hope to never have to repeat.
